Sweeping out the Patriots

Laney sweeps the Pender Patriots as Ty Balcombe scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Bucs. Kirby Kealon chipped in with 12 points, and Tariq Lane added 10 points. Early foul trouble sat with Ryan Perkins, but when he returned, he scored two big reverse layups to push Laney's lead in the 4th quarter. The Bucs are back in action, hosting Southwest Onslow.

The Bucs dropped their second game of the year to the Scorpians. Sophmore Kirby Kealon lead the way, in as many games, for the Bucs with 18 points including 4 3 pointers. Following Kirby was fellow sophmore Tariq Lane and Senior Kevin Bell who chipped in 9 points a piece.  The game featured 5 charges taken by the Bucs. 

 

Next up, a date with the Pender Patriots on Friday night December 14 7:30pm.

1st Annual Laney alumni game took place December 8th, concluding a great weekend for Laney basketball which included the court dedication ceremony Friday night. The alumni game was fun for all the 20+ alumni who showed up. The blue team, with a 5th quarter comeback, beat the white team. Blue team was coached by Cedric Dickerson and white team was led by Fred Lynch.

Great game and celebration at Laney High School as the court was officially named after longtime coaches Ruby Sutton and Fred Lynch. Laney came out poised and took an early lead and never looked back. Kirby Kealon lead the way with a breakout game as a sophomore, scoring 29 points, 19 a halftime, including 5 3-pointers. Ty Balcombe brought in 9 points, and Tariq Lane chipped in 10 points. 11 players scored for the Bucs as we even our record to 2-2.


Dedicated to the Game

Sutton/Lynch

Big night tonight at Michael Jordan Gymnasium as the the court will officially became Ruby Sutton/Fred Lynch Court at Michael Jordan Gymansium.  Former players returned that night to honor the longtime coaches for the dedication and support to Laney High School.  Coach Lynch served as basketball coach for 26 years and Ruby Sutton has served as the Volleyball and Cheerleading Coach for 32+ years.  A reception followed the Varsity Boys game for all former players.  The ceremony and naming of the court took place immediately following the Varstiy Girls game.

After scoring 21 points in the 3rd quarter, the come back was a bit short.  Kirby Kealon came off the bench for 10 points including a timely steal during the come back in the 4th quarter.  Ty Balcombe also pitched in 10 points including a buzzer sounding 3 pointer at the end of the 3rd that helped to spark the 27 point 4 th quarter run. Kevin Bell added 7 points, Tevin Jones continued sold play around the basket cleaning the class for his 3 straight double digit rebounding effort. 
 
Next up, Laney has a home game and court dedication Friday night vs Pender.

Bucs Slam South Brunswick

Laney picks up first win of the season and first win for Coach Faulk as the new Laney Basketball coach last night as it played host to South Brunswick.  Laney defended much better, coming off a loss to Jacksonville two nights prior, only giving up 47 points.  Ty Balcombe and Kirby Kealon lead the way with 11 points while Tevin Jones chipped in 9 points 17 rebounds.
